What is a Medical Nail Technician (MNT)?
A Medical Nail Technician is a state-licensed nail technician who has completed specialized medical-focused training, hands-on internships, and formal exams. MNTs are trained in:
· Infection control and sterilization protocols
· Foot and nail disorders
· Diabetic and high-risk client care
· Clinical electric file techniques
· Emergency response and referral guidelines
Unlike regular nail technicians who focus on cosmetic services, MNTs provide clinical-grade foot care for medically vulnerable individuals, seniors, and those with complex foot health needs.

What is a Medicure or Medical Pedicure?
A medicure, or medical pedicure, is a specialized foot care treatment that focuses on maintaining healthy feet through professional care. Unlike traditional pedicures, a medicure addresses medical conditions such as thickened or ingrown toenails, calluses, corns, fungal infections, and dry or cracked skin. These treatments are performed in a safe, sterile environment by trained professionals, often catering to seniors and immune-compromised clients. The goal is to prevent foot problems, promote comfort, and improve overall foot health while providing hygienic and gentle care.

How is Compassionate Soles different from a nail salon?
Medical-Grade Sterilization: We use an autoclave to sterilize all tools—the same sterilization method used in medical and dental offices. Tools are sealed in pouches and opened in front of you.
Waterless Protocol: No foot baths means no cross-contamination risks from standing water or shared basins.
Specialized Training: Over 20 years of medical field experience plus advanced MNT, ANT, and WNT certifications.
Clinical Focus: We serve high-risk clients (diabetics, immune-compromised, seniors) who need more than cosmetic care.
Personalized Care: Comprehensive assessment, home care education, and coordination with your healthcare providers.
-
What conditions do you treat?
We provide care for: - Thick, hard-to-cut toenails - Fungal toenail infections - Non-invasive ingrown toenail care - Calluses and dry, cracked skin - Nail deformities and curved nails - Foot health maintenance for diabetics - Neuropathy and circulation-related foot concerns - Mobility-related foot care challenges
We refer to podiatrists for: - Open wounds or ulcers - Active infections - Severe ingrown toenails requiring surgical intervention - Suspicious lesions or severe swelling - Any condition requiring medical or surgical treatment
-
Do you provide medical treatment or diagnose conditions?
No. We provide non-invasive, clinical foot care within our scope of practice as a Licensed Medical Nail Technician. We do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe treatments, or perform surgical procedures. If we identify something that requires medical attention, we’ll refer you to a podiatrist or physician immediately.
-
How do you sterilize your tools?
Every reusable tool goes through a rigorous sterilization process:
1. Cleaning: Tools are scrubbed to remove debris
2. Disinfection: Tools are soaked in hospital-grade disinfectant
3. Sterilization: Tools are placed in a medical-grade autoclave (high-pressure steam sterilization)
4. Sealing: Sterilized tools are sealed in pouches and labeled with sterilization date
5. Opening: Pouches are opened in front of you at the start of your appointment
This is the same sterilization process used in medical and dental offices.
-
What is a waterless pedicure, and why is it safer?
A waterless pedicure uses no foot baths or soaking. Instead, we use sanitizing sprays, softening agents, and clinical techniques to care for your feet.
Why it’s safer: - No standing water that can harbor bacteria or fungi - No shared basins that can cross-contaminate between clients - Ideal for diabetics, immune-compromised individuals, and anyone with open skin or infection risks - Reduces exposure to waterborne pathogens
-
What single-use items do you use?
We use disposable, single-use items whenever possible, including: - Nitrile gloves - Nail files and buffers - Cotton pads and towels - Foot shields and toe separators - Alcohol wipes
These items are discarded immediately after your appointment and never reused.
-

What’s the difference between HSA and FSA?
An HSA (Health Savings Account) is like a personal savings account for health expenses. You own it, and the money rolls over year to year—you don’t lose it if you don’t spend it.
An FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is set up by your job. You have to use the money within the year, or you might lose what’s left.
Both can be used to pay for medical foot care services at Compassionate Soles, as long as they’re health-related and not just cosmetic.
-
What services qualify for HSA/FSA payment?
Services that address medical conditions such as diabetic foot care, fungal nail restoration, and ingrown toenail correction (BS Brace) are typically eligible.Description goes here
-
Do I need a prescription?
Not usually, but some plans may require documentation. We’re happy to provide a care summary or receipt with clinical details upon request.Description goes here
